In a significant purchase in the advancement of green vehicle technology, Cummins Inc. (logo, pictured) has swooped to acquire assets associated with the emission control products of Hilite International.
Hilite has both air-assisted and liquid-only SCR components in its line-up and now its selective catalytic reduction doser technology will be part of Cummins Emission Solutions.
The air-assisted components utilise on-board compressed air to dose the reduction medium in the exhaust pipe. Meanwhile, its liquid-only components use compressed air and provide tailored sprays to achieve stringent emission requirements.
Most after-treatment systems use subsystems such as controls, sensors, substrates, catalysts, dosers and packaging. Their integration is vital to the overall performance of the engine system and SCR doser technology is seen as a critical enabler of both the durability and performance of SCR after-treatment systems.
Now the market for after-treatment products has been driven by government regulations of the emissions that diesel engines can release into the atmosphere. These include the regulations set by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Both organisations have tightened their permissible emissions including those referring to carbon monoxide, particulate matter, oxides of nitrogen and unburnt hydrocarbons.
